Last month, the AvosLocker ransomware group hacked into the US police agency, encrypting computers, and stealing data. However, after learning that the victim was a government agency, the gang offered a decryptor for free and refused to disclose a list of stolen files or information about how they broke into the department's network, as per reports. It is reported that AvosLocker group has no strategy about who they target, however they usually avoid encrypting government and healthcare organisations. Over the last year, however, worldwide law enforcement efforts have led to the indictment or imprisonment of several ransomware members and money launderers, including members of the REvil, Egregor, Netwalker, and Clop ransomware gangs. This increased pressure appears to be having a positive impact, as several ransomware operations, including DarkSide, BlackMatter, Avaddon, and REvil, have shut down because of it. Unfortunately, many ransomware groups just rebrand as a new business in the hopes of dodging law enforcement.
