Description

Netherlands-based semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia, a subsidiary of Wingtech Technology, has fallen victim to a cyberattack orchestrated by the Dark Angels ransomware group. The hackers claimed to have accessed Nexperia's systems and stolen approximately 1 terabyte of sensitive data. Among the compromised information are quality control records, client folders encompassing nearly 900 companies including major names like Apple, IBM, Huawei, and SpaceX, confidential project details, industrial production data, and corporate records. Dark Angels made their breach public on April 10 via their Tor-based website, threatening to leak all the stolen data unless a ransom is paid. While Nexperia confirmed the breach, they stated it occurred in March when unauthorized access was detected on some of their servers. Immediate action was taken to disconnect the affected systems from the internet to contain the incident. Additionally, extensive mitigation measures were implemented, and an investigation was initiated with the assistance of third-party experts to ascertain the extent and nature of the breach. The company has notified relevant data protection authorities and law enforcement agencies about the incident. However, due to the ongoing investigation, Nexperia refrained from disclosing further details. This breach follows Dark Angels' previous attack on Johnson Controls, where they claimed to have stolen 27 gigabytes of data and demanded a $51 million ransom. Johnson Controls incurred expenses exceeding $27 million in response to the incident, highlighting the significant financial impact of such cyberattacks.
