Description

As per sources, Henry Schein, a leading healthcare solutions provider, disclosed a data breach affecting over 160,000 individuals after suffering two cyberattacks by the BlackCat (ALPHV) ransomware group in 2023. These attacks forced the company to take systems offline, disrupting manufacturing and distribution operations. The ransomware group claimed to have stolen 35 terabytes of data and encrypted Henry Schein's network twice following unsuccessful ransom negotiations. On October 15, 2024, Henry Schein confirmed the first attack, and on November 22, a second breach occurred. Although the hackers threatened further encryption if demands went unmet, they eventually released some stolen data on a leak site. Now, more than a year later, Henry Schein has reported to the Maine Attorney General that personal information belonging to 166,432 individuals was compromised. Working with external experts, the company identified affected data, though they have not specified the exact types of data stolen. Furthermore, the investigation, which concluded in early 2024, revealed that sensitive information might include varied details depending on the records each individual had previously shared with the company. In response to the breach, Henry Schein is providing affected individuals with a 24-month complimentary subscription to Experian’s IdentityWorksSM for credit monitoring and fraud protection.
