Singing River Health System (SRHS) disclosed that approximately 900,000 individuals were affected by a ransomware attack in August 2023. The breach compromised personal data including names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and health information. Although no misuse has been detected, SRHS is notifying potentially affected individuals as a precaution. Initially, SRHS reported 252,890 individuals impacted, but the figure was revised to 895,204, prompting written notifications starting May 13. SRHS promptly contained and investigated the incident upon discovery, alerted law enforcement, and is implementing additional security measures and staff training. Affected individuals are offered 12 months of free credit monitoring and guidance on safeguarding against identity theft and fraud. SRHS advises vigilance in monitoring accounts, benefits explanations, and credit reports for suspicious activities, urging immediate reporting of any such incidents to relevant institutions.
